Student housing in Oxford
Oxford isn't short on history, but finding somewhere decent to live shouldn't take a term to sort out. Housr's student housing in Oxford is searchable by weekly price, bedroom count, and bathroom setup, so you can go from "where do I even start" to a shortlist in one sitting. Filter for a single room, a studio, or a whole shared house, then flick between list, tile, and map views to see what's actually near your college or campus.
Set your budget, set your must-haves, and let the results do the sorting.
Student areas in Oxford
Oxford's colleges and departments are scattered across the centre rather than sat on one campus, so where you live changes your daily walk more than in most cities. A few areas come up again and again.
Students who want to be five minutes from lectures, the Bodleian, and the Covered Market tend to end up in the Oxford City Centre area. Rents here run higher and the stock is tighter, but nothing beats rolling out of bed and into a nine o'clock tutorial.
East Oxford, and renting along Cowley Road specifically, is where a lot of the city's student social life actually happens: independent cinema, curry houses, vintage shops, and a pub for every mood. It's a fifteen to twenty-five minute walk into the centre depending on how far down the road you land, and it sits close to Oxford Brookes' Headington campus too.
Housing near Oxford Brookes in Headington suits students studying there directly, thanks to the short walk or a hop on the Oxford Bus Company's service 8 into the city centre. Expect rows of Victorian terraces and a steady flow of Brookes students filling them each September.
For something quieter with a bit more character, life in Jericho puts you next to the Oxford University Press building and the canal, with genuinely good bars and restaurants on the doorstep. It costs more than Cowley Road, but it's a short walk to most University of Oxford colleges.
Further out along the Banbury Road, Summertown student lets trade a bit of buzz for calm streets and easy access into town on the frequent Stagecoach service 2. It's popular with postgrads who want distance from the Cowley Road noise without losing the walk into the centre.
Accommodation types
Housr lists private student accommodation across Oxford rather than college-run or Brookes-run halls, so what you see is what's actually on the market. Search for a studio if you want your own front door, an en-suite room if you'd rather split a kitchen but keep your bathroom, or one of the many student houses in Oxford if you're moving in with mates. Set your budget by weekly price and narrow further by bedroom and bathroom count, so you're not scrolling past ten-bed houses when you just need a single room.
If you've got a shared house lined up but a room's gone spare, or you're still looking for people to move in with, Housr Roomie can help fill the gap or find you a group to join.
Universities in Oxford
Oxford is home to two very different institutions, and it matters which one you're searching near. The University of Oxford is the collegiate university, its 39 colleges spread across the city centre rather than gathered on a single campus, which is why so much university accommodation Oxford students search for sits right in the centre and in nearby Jericho.
Oxford Brookes University is a separate institution, based mainly at its Headington campus about a mile east of the centre, with student accommodation clustering around Headington and Cowley as a result. Don't assume the two share housing patterns. A ten-minute walk from a University of Oxford college can be a very different bus ride from Brookes.
