Student housing in Shepherds Bush
Shepherd's Bush sits in Travelcard Zone 2, wedged between Holland Park and White City, with Westfield London on one side and a proper street market on the other. It's louder and busier than most student areas in west London, and that's the appeal. Search for student housing in Shepherds Bush on Housr and you can filter by weekly price, bedrooms, and bathrooms straight away, so you're not wading through listings that don't fit before you've even seen a photo.
What's around Shepherds Bush
Westfield London opened here in 2008 and is still one of the biggest shopping centres in Europe, with a cinema, a bowling alley, and enough food options that you'll never agree with your housemates on where to eat. Head the other way and you hit Shepherd's Bush Market, running beside the Hammersmith & City line viaduct since 1914, good for cheap fruit and veg, fabric, and phone repairs.
Shepherd's Bush Green is the natural meeting point, a strip of grass surrounded by pubs and bus stops rather than a park you'd sit in for long. A short walk off it is the Shepherd's Bush Empire, a proper touring venue that's hosted a surprise Rolling Stones warm-up gig, Amy Winehouse, and Mumford & Sons since it reopened as a music hall in 1994, and Loftus Road, home to Queens Park Rangers, where matchdays fill the surrounding streets with blue and white hoops. The Bush Theatre, tucked into a converted library on Uxbridge Road, is worth knowing about if new writing and small stages are your thing.
Getting around
Shepherd's Bush is a genuine transport hub, which is rare for an area this affordable. The Central line station puts you a direct ride from Notting Hill Gate and Oxford Circus, no changes needed. A few minutes' walk away, Shepherd's Bush Market and Goldhawk Road stations run the Circle and Hammersmith & City lines, and Wood Lane covers the same two lines right by Westfield.
For anything heading south or east, the separate Shepherd's Bush rail station is on London Overground's Mildmay line, which runs to Clapham Junction one way and on to Willesden Junction and Stratford the other, useful if your course or a part-time shift is south of the river. Bus route 94 runs from Acton Green through Shepherd's Bush and on to Notting Hill Gate and the West End, and White City bus station a few minutes north covers routes heading further out. Most students here don't bother with a car.
Universities near Shepherds Bush
Imperial College London's White City Campus is the closest, at 80-92 Wood Lane, W12. It's a five-minute walk from White City station or about six from Wood Lane, and just under twenty minutes on foot from Shepherd's Bush itself if you'd rather skip the tube. Imperial held second place in the QS World University Rankings 2026, and White City is where its business school and several engineering and enterprise labs are based, alongside its main South Kensington site a couple of Central line stops away.
The University of West London's Ealing site is also within easy reach: a direct Central line ride to Ealing Broadway, then about fifteen minutes on foot (or a short bus) to the St Mary's Road campus. It's a longer trip than the walk to White City, but still a single tube line with no changes.
