Student housing near University College London
UCL sits in Bloomsbury, right in the middle of London, which changes how the whole search works. There's no single "student side of town" to aim for, just a set of neighbourhoods within a short Tube ride or a decent walk of Gower Street. Housr lets you filter student housing near UCL by weekly price, bedroom count, and bathroom setup, then check exactly how far each place actually is from campus on the interactive map.
About UCL
UCL was founded in 1826 as London's first university open to students of any religion, and by 1878 it was granting women full membership and degrees, years ahead of most of the country. Nearly two centuries on, it's grown into one of the world's most research-intensive universities and a founding member of the Russell Group, with its main campus still centred on Gower Street, WC1E 6BT.
It climbed to joint 8th in the QS World University Rankings 2027, its 15th straight year in the global top 10, and holds 13th place in the UK in the Complete University Guide's 2027 league table. Medicine, law and economics all draw students from across the world, and the Bartlett School of Architecture, UCL's architecture and built environment faculty, was ranked number one globally by subject in the QS World Rankings 2026. If your course involves fieldwork in a lecture theatre one day and a studio crit the next, this is about as central as it gets.
Popular student areas near UCL
Camden. Loud, a bit chaotic, and exactly what a lot of people picture when they think of student London. Camden Market, the canal, and a live music scene that runs most nights of the week sit alongside genuinely affordable share houses once you're a few streets back from the main road. Browse student accommodation in Camden for houses within easy reach of UCL.
Kings Cross. The area around the station has been rebuilt from the ground up over the past decade, and it shows: Coal Drops Yard, Granary Square, and Google's UK headquarters all sit within a few minutes of each other. It's smarter and pricier than Camden but genuinely close to campus. Take a look at student houses in Kings Cross if you want that polish without a long commute.
Central London. Streets like Fitzrovia and Bloomsbury itself border the campus directly, so some students end up living a genuine walk from lectures rather than a Tube ride. Expect to pay for it, but the convenience is real. See what's on offer for central London student living if location matters more than square footage.
For the full spread of the city beyond these three, the London student accommodation hub covers every area Housr lists.
Getting to campus
From Camden Town, it's a 4 to 9 minute ride on the Northern line to Warren Street, followed by a short walk, or about 28 minutes on foot down Camden Road if you fancy the exercise. From Kings Cross St Pancras, one stop takes you to Euston Square in around 10 minutes, and it's a flat 18 minute walk if the weather's decent. Students in Fitzrovia or Bloomsbury are often within 10 to 15 minutes on foot of Gower Street, with Euston Square, Warren Street, Euston, and Russell Square all serving the campus directly.
None of this involves a car. Central London runs on the Tube, the bus, and your own legs, and UCL doesn't offer campus parking anyway.
