Student housing in Leeds city centre
Leeds is one of the biggest student cities in the country, and the centre is where a lot of the action sits. Looking for student housing in Leeds city centre on Housr means you can set a weekly budget, pick the number of bedrooms and bathrooms, and see real availability on a map or a list instead of guessing how close a place actually is to campus.
Living central works if you want bars, gigs, and a five-minute walk to a lecture on the same street. Both main universities sit right on the edge of town, so you're rarely far from either.
What's around the city centre
The going-out scene is the headline. Call Lane is the main strip of bars and late-night spots, busy most nights and rammed at weekends. Belgrave Music Hall & Canteen does live music, a rooftop, and pizza from Doughboys, and Headrow House nearby is the go-to for rooftop drinks and DJ sets. For the bigger gigs, the first direct arena is right at the top of town.
Shopping covers both ends. Trinity Leeds and Briggate handle the high street, the Corn Exchange under its glass dome is full of independents and vintage, and Kirkgate Market is the largest covered market in Europe, with hundreds of stalls and some of the cheapest fresh food in the city. There's a Sainsbury's Local in the centre and an M&S Simply Food in the station for the smaller shops.
If you want green space, Hyde Park and Woodhouse Moor are a short walk northwest, on the way out to the classic Headingley student belt.
Getting around
Leeds is compact and mostly walkable. The train station sits dead centre and runs across Yorkshire and beyond, so weekend trips home or to York and Manchester are easy.
Buses are frequent through First Bus, and the route up towards Hyde Park and Headingley is the one students use most. If you cycle, the centre is flat, though the run up Woodhouse Lane to campus is a gentle climb.
Universities near the city centre
The two main universities are practically in the centre.
The University of Leeds campus is around a 15 minute walk north of the station, just off Woodhouse Lane. Leeds Beckett's City Campus is even closer, spread across buildings only a few minutes from the shops and the station, with its second campus out in Headingley. Leeds Arts University sits just north near the University of Leeds, Leeds Conservatoire is over at Quarry Hill on the eastern side of the centre, and Leeds Trinity is further out at Horsforth, which means a train or bus. For Leeds student accommodation, city centre blocks keep you closest to all of them.
