About University of Surrey

Surrey traces its roots to Battersea Polytechnic Institute, founded in 1891 in London. It sits close to Guildford's mainline station, so getting to campus or up to London for the weekend is straightforward even though the walk to lectures takes longer than from Stoughton.

Getting to campus

Stagecoach's Route 1 is the bus almost every Surrey student ends up relying on. It runs up to every 15 minutes between Guildford railway station, the town centre, Stag Hill campus, Manor Park campus and the Royal Surrey County Hospital. A night service, the N1, covers the same route on a flat £3 fare during term time.

If you're staying near the town centre or Stoughton, walking is often just as quick. Stag Hill is roughly 15 minutes on foot from the Friary shopping centre, or five minutes by bus if it's raining, which in Guildford it usually is. Students at Manor Park can reach Stag Hill on the same pedestrian path in about 20 minutes, or take the campus shuttle that runs up to every 10 minutes on weekdays.

Guildford's mainline station also puts London Waterloo under 35 minutes away on the fastest trains, handy for weekends off or flying in via Heathrow.
